Aliy Zirkle is a
33 year old musher from Twin Rivers, Alaska. She is a native of New Hampshire,
and before coming to Alaska for her first job as a fish and wildlife biologist,
she was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She began mushing
in 1993, and since then has been a kennel owner and tour operator. She
ran in the Yukon Quest three times before debuting in the Iditarod, finishing
in fourth place the second time and winning in 2000. Sled dogs are her
life and passion. She enjoys watching puppies grow, learn, and eventually
become part of the team with their siblings. Her hobbies are raising friendly,
happy puppies, and working on her home and kennel. She is single.
'I consider the Iditarod not only a competition of the highest caliber, but also a celebration of true Arctic transportation. I appreciate the trail crossing this magnificent state of Alaska and can think of no better mode of transportation I'd prefer to a dog team.'
