I chose Debbie Moderow for the Iditarod. Debbie is a 48 year old musher who competed for her first time in the 2003 Iditarod. She was born in Connecticut. In 1979 she went to Alaska to climb mountains, and she met her future husband, Mark.
She started mushing dogs in 1989 and she and her family recieved a retired Iditarod sled dog named Salt. This dog became the name of Debbie's kennel ' Salty Dog Kennel'. Today Debbie's kennel is the home to about 25 Huskies.
Mark and Debbie have two children, Andy who is 20, and Hannah who is 18, who also enjoy caring, and training for the dogs. Both children have competed in Junior Iditarod races and have 14 years of dog care experience.

Debbie's last words in her biography at www.iditarod.com are
"My focus is to enjoy the journey across Alaska and to have tails wagging at the  finish line in Nome. At that point I will hand the challenge to my husband, Mark, who hopes to be the next  Moderow to enjoy the Iditarod adventure."
