What
is Title I?
$Title I is a program that enables
us to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities for all
our students to meet challenging state performance standards.

$The
Selection Process
Children identified as having the greatest need for special assistance
are selected using the following criteria: the results of standardized tests,
district assessments, teacher recommendation based on actual classroom
performance, and report card assessment.
Title I Programs
The
Reading
Recovery Reading
Recovery is a nationally recognized program for identified first grade
students. The first graders receive a thirty minute one-on-one reading lesson
daily. This intensive instruction is provided by a specially trained Reading
Recovery teacher for the duration of 12 to 20 weeks.
Literacy
Groups First
and second grade students receive additional assistance in reading and writing
through literacy groups taught in collaboration with the regular classroom
teacher. Instruction takes place in the classroom.
Reading
& Math Support Students
receive small group instruction in reading and math which supplements the
regular reading and math programs in grades one through six. Assistance
is targeted to the individual student to provide them with the support needed
to meet grade level expectation.
Reporting of Student Progress
All parents will receive quarterly progress reports.
Individual conferences may be requested at conference times or at other times
by contacting the school office at (908) 689-0091 for
Parent Involvement
$Each year a parent information
session is held during scheduled Back-to- School nights. At this time the
programs, objectives, and program evaluations will be explained.
$Specific information on student
progress will be shared during parent/ teacher conferences in November and
February.
$Each parent will receive a copy of
the School-Parent Compact, which defines the shared responsibility for
improving student academic achievement.
$In The Loop, the parent
newsletter, will be distributed monthly to address specific strategies and
activities to improve student academic achievement and performance.
$Surveys are distributed to assess parents’
interest in various classes that may be offered during the academic year to
increase parent involvement in their child’s learning.
$Opportunities for parents to
volunteer are highlighted at Back—to-school night and specific training
sessions are held for classroom volunteers. Family event nights are held
throughout the year.
$A Parent Compact is sent home with
each student receiving Title 1 services.
$Parent resource materials are
available through the Health Office and the Child Study Team office.
