Participant
Information
This activity will begin on Thursday, January 4, 2001. Please wait until
that day to ensure that all birds are placed.
All teachers participating must be registered
as a participant for the Warren
County Migratory Bird Project.
Goal:
-
To find the pictures of all 22 birds which are included on the submission
form and use the resource links provided to answer a question about
each one.
How the project works-
-
Hidden somewhere on the web pages of the hosting sites, you will find a
picture a bird. When you have found the picture, click on it and
you will be taken to a question page that contains a question about that
bird and a link to a resource that you can use to answer the question.

Frequently Asked
Questions-
How do we know the hosting sites?
-
Links are provided on this page to all school/district web pages that are
hosting.
-
The County Bird logo will be located on the home page of each hosting site
signifying that they are a hosting site.
-
Along with the logo will be information regarding the number of bird pictures
that can be found at that site and possibly some clues to help in locating
the picture of the birds.
What do we do when we find a bird and get the answer?
-
You may want to print out the submission
form when you begin the contest. You can use this form to mark off
the birds found and write in the answers for your record keeping.
-
You may want to print out the bird question page and use this as an ongoing
record of your progress. You can hang the pictures up on the wall or use
it as a bulletin board idea. Each time you find a bird and answer the question
correctly, add it to the display.
-
You may also want to keep track of the different hosting sites and check
off when you have found all of the birds at that site. This way you will
not be constantly revisiting sites when you have already located all of
the birds at that site.
What do we do when we are done?
-
There is a link on this page which will take you to the submission
form. Please wait until you have finished the project before submitting
your answers. The submission form will allow you to input your school
name, teacher name, and grade level. You will then input the answers to
the questions for each bird and click on the submit button. Your answers
will be checked, and you will be notified as to your success.
How do we know if we have the correct answer?
-
You will be notified of your success after you have submitted the answer
page.
-
We are hoping to make an answer sheet available to participating
teachers as the contest progresses.
Is this a contest?
-
This project is not designed to be a contest. The grade span of 4-12
includes students with a wide variety of skills and knowledge of the Internet.
All participants will receive a "Certificate of Participation" after they
have completed the project.
-
Primary teachers are encouraged to participate by simply searching for
the hidden birds. Some of the questions will be too difficult for younger
students, however.
How long does the activity last?
-
This activity will end Friday March 9. We want to give all participants
ample opportunity to complete the project yet don't want to require hosting
schools to keep the bird pictures up indefinitely. Progress will
be evaluated at the monthly County Technology Coordinators meeting which
will be held in January and February.
What do I do if I need help?
-
Perhaps you can't find a bird's picture, or you have difficulty finding
the answer to a question. Links may break down or you're not sure what
to do next. Please contact the project administrator- Rebecca Snyder, Technology
Coordinator at Washington Borough School District. You can reach her via
e-mail at snyderr@warrennet.org
. We will do everything we can to make sure that this is an enjoyable and
productive educational experience. We also welcome suggestions and advice
to help this process in the future.
Thanks- and Happy Surfing
