ART!

Mrs. Blake

The students at Memorial School have art class once a week for forty minutes.  If you are a student, here is a taste of what you will be doing in class.

THIRD GRADE -  Third grade students spend most of the year learning about color and color mixing.  That means we use a lot of messy materials, so bring your smock!  We'll have fun mixing paint to get just the color you want, making hand dyed paper,  mixing colors that are light and dark, and we'll even spend time talking about how your eyes work.  You'll also enjoy origami, studying artists, learning some art history, and doing projects that go with lessons from your classroom.

FOURTH GRADE - Fourth graders enjoy the challenge of making projects that have several steps, so bring your brain!  You'll be using materials like ink, oil pastels, watercolors, paint, and colored pencils.  Japanese ink painting, painting weather, making a series, learning about artists, and making Native American coil pots are some of the fun things you can look forward to.

FIFTH GRADE - Fifth grade students have the pleasure of using some unique and challenging materials.  Look forward to doing metalworking, scratchboard, paper mache, clay, and more!  Some of your projects will be about cultures you are studying in social studies class, such as the Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, and colonial Americans.

SIXTH GRADE - The projects of the sixth grade students will follow art from the stone age until the Renaissance.  You experience what it was like to be a cave man as you gather materials from nature to make your own paint brush.  You'll try your hand at hieroglyphics and the unique style of Egyptian art.  Make a portrait sculpture like the ancient Greeks and Romans.  That's just a few of the challenges you'll face!

You can also look forward to:

*Using the pottery wheel
*Playing games
*And of course...coming to the ART SHOW!
