Warren County Technical School promotes and develops opportunities for all students in areas of vocational, academic and personal achievement, through the cooperation of our students, staff, parents and the community in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Welcome to the 2005-2006 academic school year at Warren Tech. There is an expression that speaks to the concept that the more things change, the more they stay the same. We have had some changes evolve at Warren Tech over the summer; some in personnel and still others in coursework offerings. Specifically, though I have been at Warren Tech for fourteen years as Director of Special Services, I am now with the title change to Director of Student Services, responsible for all of guidance in addition to Special Services. My office is now located within the main office suite while the special services staff is still located at the end of the hall on the east side of the building. (library entrance) There are still other activities that I will be coordinating including facilities usage and fundraising. Of course, I will maintain the liaison role to the PTA, a particular position that is quite unique to Warren Tech and indeed very special to me.
The fact that I now will be guiding guidance so to speak, to me, is as formidable a task as it is challenging. What I do recognize is that we have counselors who are sincerely dedicated to the students. The guidance department includes Mr. Feldman who will be counselor for the 11th and 12th graders and Mr. Joseph Orchulli who will have 9th and 10th grade students. Additionally, Mr. Ed Turenne, our CIE (coordinator of Industrial Education) will focus on work activities for our 12th graders. The administrative assistant assigned to the guidance department is Ms. Ann Viebrock who is most ready to work with parents in arranging for appointments, conferences or acting in the facilitator's role.
If you would like to meet with your child's counselor, please call Mrs. Viebrock for an appointment at 835-2819. The counselors are generally available from 8am to 3pm. Should you need to have a teacher present, they will need some notification time in order for class coverage to be arranged.
If there is a particular program you are interested in knowing about especially at the post high school level, please let us know. It is my experience that frequently our students and parents spearhead new places and programs for us to research. At Warren Tech, our families are an integral part of the educational process.
In my other role as the administrator in charge of Special Services, the order of operations remains much the same. If you need to talk to one of the case managers or myself, please call Ms. Marcia Stieh, our administrative assistant, to arrange for an appointment. She will advise you as to any scheduled or required meeting that you may need to attend. However, in keeping with our policy of making every effort to meet your daily activities, she will endeavor to reschedule an appointment if at all possible.
Our professional emphasis as a school this year is Accreditation for Growth thru self assessment. This is another phase of the Middle States Evaluative process which we completed 10 years ago. The process is sometimes referred to as a reaccredidation. Toward this end we will be meeting as an entire faculty formulating mission statements through internal planning as we identify goals and objectives in a seven year plan. The process, collaborative in format, will include members of the community eventually and of course when indicated; we will also solicit your feedback. Our facility is unique as is our mission. Planning for the future in this world of both constancy and change is but one of our collective professional challenges for this year.
Please remember to read the website for any current information on activities at Tech. Currently, we are promoting our only school wide fundraiser dedicated to Project Graduation. By now you will have received the packets. Together, with my office and the capable senior class leadership of Ms. Amanda Latella, we are hoping to raise 10,000.00 to cover the cost of the Project Graduation Event. I wish to add that a portion of these proceeds are also dedicated to a Student Assistance Account which is used to aid families with emergency needs.
Once again I wish to welcome you to this school year Of course I am reiterating the obvious when I say that Warren Tech is a
unique school. Our pride in our students and their families resonates throughout the county in large part due to the gracious things you say about us. Thanks for your support. We wish you all a great school year for all of your kids.
