U S HISTORY I prerequisite - none 5 credits The United States History I course will provide an opportunity for students to acquire a greater under¬standing of the origins of our nation. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to understand the development of the United States through 1870. This program will enable the students to con¬nect the past with the present. There will be a concerted effort to apply knowledge of the past with current events as they unfold. Included in the course will be pertinent units on the history and treat¬ment of the Native Americans, the impact of slavery on American society, and the roles of African Americans and women in American History.

U S HISTORY I HONORS prerequisite - none 5 credits The United States History Honors I course will provide an opportunity for students to acquire a greater understanding of the origins of our nation. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to understand the development of the United States through 1870. This program will enable the stu¬dents to connect the past with the present. There will be a concerted effort to apply our knowledge of the past with current events as they unfold. There will be use of primary sources as well as secon¬dary sources to develop opinions about the past. This development of historical imagination will en¬able the students to go back in time. Included in the course will be pertinent units on the history and treatment of the Native Americans, the impact of slavery on the American society and the roles of Af¬rican Americans and women in American history. This curriculum has been prepared for the student who is planning on pursuing a post-secondary education.

U S HISTORY II prerequisite -US History / 5 credits The United States History II course will provide an opportunity for the students to acquire an under¬standing of the historical events that shaped contemporary American from 1870 to the present. It will also provide an opportunity for students to acquire an understanding of our local, state and federal government and an overview of the American economy as compared to other world economics. Cur¬rent events will be used throughout the course as it pertains to material presented. This is a full year course for grades 10-12. Included in the course will be units concerning the role of African Ameri¬cans and women in American history, diversity, and genocide.

U S HISTORY II HONORS prerequisite - Honors US / 5 credits In addition to the regular History II objectives, honor students will be required to perform and reason on a higher level, complete additional reports, projects, and learn at an independent rather than teacher directed pace. Current events will be used throughout the course as it pertains to material presented. This is a full year course for grades 10-12. Included in the course will be units concern¬ing the roles of African Americans and women in American history, diversity, and genocide. This cur¬riculum has been prepared for the student who is preparing for entrance into post-secondary educa¬tion.

WORLD GEOGRAPHY/WORLD CULTURES prerequisite - none 5 credits The World Geography/Cultures course is designed to familiarize students with the cultures associ¬ated with various geographic regions of the world. The students will gain an understanding that the issues and events of today are a product of past and present cultural experiences, relations among societies, and the history, economy, and geography of a region. Students will also understand that by learning about other cultures, they can better tolerate and accept differences within our own cul¬ture and understand them. Current events will be explored throughout the course. The course will include units of study on map and globe skills, the development of cultures in the past and modern world, and the following regions/cultures of the world: Northern Eurasia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa, East Asia and South Asia. This is a full year course for grades 9-12. Included in this course will be a unit concerning a history of Russia to the collapse of Commu¬nism and a unit on the Holocaust.


WORLD GEOGRAPHY/WORLD CULTURES HONORS prerequisite-none 5 credits The Honors World Geography/Cultures course is designed to familiarize students with the cultures associated with various geographic regions of the world. This designation signifies a course of study that follows the same curriculum objectives and core standards, but allows/enables students to learn on a higher level that may prepare them for possible post-secondary education. Honor students will be required to perform and think reason on a higher level, complete additional reports and projects, and learn at an independent rather than teacher directed pace. The students will gain an under¬standing that the issues and events of today are a product of past and present cultural experiences, relations among societies, and the history, economy, and geography of a region. Current events will be used throughout the course.
