CAREER ACADEMY

Formerly the Communications Program, this Academy Program in Television, Radio & Digital Media is a comprehensive process-centered program which prepares students interested in the area of multi-media production.. Students will integrate digital video, graphics, sounds and animation in order to create presentations through artistic collaboration, relate the production and others to the social and historical context and form aesthetic judgments. This program has won over 100 awards for its audio and video productions including three Telly Awards. Family PC Magazine named one of our students as one of the “Top Ten Wired Teens” in the country and MSNBC named the program one of the country’s “Cool Schools.”

Students produce several programs which air on Comcast cable including: The Working Advantage, Experience Education, Real to Reel, Kids Training Puppies, Kid Witness News and Comcast Newsmakers which airs on the top of every hour on CNN Headline News.


TELEVISION, RADIO & DIGITAL MEDIA 1 prerequisite - none 10 credits
In this year, students will have the opportunity to experience instruction in portable audio production, which includes editing and dubbing. This course also allots students the flexibility to be able to delve into radio production and work hands on with top-notch equipment that would allow for the production of programmable audio.

TELEVISION, RADIO & DIGITAL MEDIA 2 prerequisite -TV, Radio & Dig. Media 1 15 credits
This year will offer students to acquire the skills necessary to utilize video as a way of relaying information. The production of video and electronic news gathering combined offer a varied, workable, hands-on curriculum that drives forward the standards for quality, television production.

TELEVISION, RADIO & DIGITAL MEDIA 3 prerequisite -TV, Radio & Dig. Media 2 15 credits
In this block, the student will enhance the skills and experiences in video and audio production. This is done through independent work projects and cooperative group assignments. Also, the students in this course will participate in the Comcast Newsmakers experience. The students will also become familiarized with animations and graphic integration.


TELEVISION, RADIO & DIGITAL MEDIA 3 prerequisite -TV, Radio & Dig. Media 3 20 credits
In this section, the students will learn the skills to produce digital audio and digital video pieces that will correlate to real world scenarios. Also, the students will utilize the concepts of video graphic design and implementation.. Also, the course will offer a brief introduction into advanced television animation.
