BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CAREER ACADEMY

The four-year, full-time Business Academy at WCTS provides the foundation for building a relevant career pathway towards a professional career. Included are higher-level business courses, which are transferable to WCTS partnering colleges and universities. This enables graduates of WCTS Business Academy to complete their degree earlier, or to complete both a Bachelor’s and a Masters degree within 5 years.

The curriculum coincides with the required coursework at partnering colleges, and includes modern technology tools for assessments and solutions. A wide range of business subjects is taught to provide the students with a broad base of knowledge. All theoretical concepts are enhanced through direct applications with current issues and media events. A brief description of the 4 year program follows:

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 1 prerequisite: none 10 Credits
This coursework is comprised of two separate classes. First is course that focuses on an introduction to business careers with a target on the exploration of career opportunities, the job search process and interview preparation. A complete course is provided to ensure the student is proficient in office development software. It will also include another class regarding business math, where the focus is on the mathematical concepts and calculations essential for business decision-making such as: purchase discounts, interest, depreciation, commercial paper, pricing, and charges for credit.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 2 prerequisite: BUS. MAN. 1 15 Credits

The coursework for this year includes business communications, where topics include principles of effective business writing and effective use of oral communication skills in business and professional settings. Also students will be given an infusion of curriculum regarding Introduction to Financial Services, which is a broad-based introduction to the financial service industry, and its impact on business decisions and strategies. The course begins with a study of macro-economic theory. Finally, this year will conclude with a overview curriculum of organizational management, a section that explores how businesses are organized and managed and how such factors affect our economic system.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 3 prerequisite: BUS. MAN. 2 15 Credits The coursework for this year will entail a curriculum of accounting to include the basic structure of accounting terminology and procedures, as well as an introduction to the preparation of financial statements, complete with working papers and adjusting entries. Also, the students will be immersed with a curriculum that relays business ethics, an introduction to the principles of ethics as they apply to business decision-making, and the challenges posed by the globalization of business practices. Finally, students will receive an infused curriculum of business law . This will encompass an analysis of the components related to contract laws and their effect on commerce, property, sales, negotiable instruments, and employment.
