Automotive technology is a comprehensive program that incorporates all aspects of the automobile engine and accessory systems. Advanced operating theories of automotive systems and components are explored. Students learn how to apply automotive operating principles and diagnose malfunctions in automotive systems. The coursework emphasizes the development of skills in service, repair and diagnostic procedures. Business management and specialized service courses prepare students for advancement in the automotive field. This ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified shop also provides the opportunity for students to receive twelve free college credits towards a degree at Northampton Community College.


AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 1 prerequisite - none 10 credits
The students learn how to safely work in the shop: learn about the various job opportunities in the automotive field; learn how to check and change fluids: learn tire maintenance and repair and learn about the general operation of the automobile.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 2 prerequisite - Automotive Technology 1 15 credits
The first marking period is a continuation of the student’s freshman year. During the second, third and fourth marking periods, the students study ASE engine repair and take an ASE exam. The last five weeks of school the students study ASE heating and air conditioning.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 3 prerequisite - Automotive Technology 2 15 credits
The students take an ASE brakes course during marking period 1 into 2. From marking period 2 into 4 they will study ASE electrical. During the last five weeks of school, the students study ASE heating and air conditioning.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 4 prerequisite - Automotive Technology 3 20 credits
The students take an ASE steering and suspension class during marking periods 1 into 2. From marking period 2 through 4 they will study ASE engine performance. During the last five weeks of school, the students study ASE heating and air conditioning.
