Three upcoming music events have been recognized by the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders for offering county residents some topnotch cultural opportunities close to home.
The Oxford Furnace Summer Festival on August 9 and Knowlton Riverfest on August 15-17 will feature numerous music performances in a wide variety of styles including rock, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, jazz, zydeco and world music, while some of the artists from both festivals will be playing that week at Arts Off Main Gallery in Hackettstown.
“This is perfect. This is the type of activity we want to see in our county,” Freeholder Director John DiMaio said after reading a proclamation honoring the three events. “We want to see things we can go to and enjoy,” he said.
Moreover, DiMaio added, “It certainly promotes tourism in Warren County and brings people into the county.”
“It’s good for Warren County, especially now,” Freeholder Richard D. Gardner said, explaining, “There’s going to be more folks staying home this summer, not vacationing, because of the rising cost of fuel. If they can go and enjoy themselves at these events with their family, I think it’s an excellent thing.”
Freeholder Everett A. Chamberlain said the three events are “a great opportunity” for residents and visitors alike, noting, “These festivals provide people the opportunity to experience different things. Music is very much a part of our lives. The more we experience, I think, the more we gain out of life.”
“Music makes the world go around. I don’t know a person that doesn’t like music,” Gardner remarked.
Accepting the proclamation were Oxford Mayor Bonnie Riley, Knowlton Riverfest Acting Director Renee Huntley, and Dan Hirshberg, representing Arts Off Main Gallery.
