Lesson/Unit
Summary:

The objective of this lesson is for students to set up a budget that would allow them to live the type of life they would like. This would include finding the job of their dreams, establishing a median salary, a house, finding a car, developing a budget, and tracking their deposits and expenditures for monthly living. This project would involve doing some calculations, but it's main purpose is to allow students to have fun dreaming of the future while realizing what these dreams may cost. Students will and fill out a 2 page worksheet which will guide them in the creation of a MS Excel spreadsheet containing their budget and keeping an accurate account of all monthly expenditures.

Technology Use:

Students will use the math laptop lab to research career choices, locating real estate prices, automobile prices and costs as well as record appropriate information on the onlne MS Word worksheets. Students will then transfer ths information to a MS Excel spreadsheet they created with formula usage to track their monthly budget expenditures.

Differentiation:

Newspaper, magazine, and trade papers will be accessible for students that have difficulty using internet research techniques. Teacher guidance and direction will be available during all aspects of project completion. Group mini-lessons will be presented in class on topics identified as difficult to complete. Paper requirement checklists as well as project completion worksheets will be provided for students that need hard copies rather that online resources.
