NJCCC Standards Addressed: 4.1.A., 4.1.B., 4.5.A., 4.5.F.

Objectives: To develop sense of how much a million is, to compute with large numbers, write checks and keep balance records, to use electronic resources to research products & calculate costs, to learn more about the value of money, to cut & paste pictures from the Internet to MS Word, to calculate tax and total cost of multiple items

Required Materials: Computer with Internet access and MS Word, Calculator, Million Dollar Printables, Posterboard, Notecards

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Knowledge of how to save to student folders, Practice computing tax, Knowledge of terms “debit” and “credit”, Practice writing checks and keeping bank balances

Step-By-Step Procedures:

1.     Intro project – w/ projector & w/ printout of directs for reference

2.     Allow 2 hours for resources task sheet – to learn how to look up items and copy pictures

3.     Allow 5 – 8 hours for “spending” of $1,000,000

4.     Students work independently w/ assistance as needed

5.     Warm-ups throughout project time will review finding tax and calculating checking account balances

6.     Work on presentations – posters and 4 notecards for presentation
