Child Study Team Referral Process
A child may be referred to the Child Study Team by instructional, administrative or professional staff, however, an I&RS (Intervention and Referral Service) meeting is first recommended to identify pre-referral interventions to support a student’s educational needs. A parental referral can also be made directly to the Child Study Team for consideration. Upon receipt of any request for evaluation, the parent will be asked to attend a meeting with the Child Study Team to review the referral and discuss the evaluation procedure, as appropriate.
Consent from the parent is required before any formal testing can take place. Once the team members have completed their assessments, a meeting will be convened with the parents and teacher to discuss the results and recommendations. If a child is eligible for special education services and the parent is in agreement, a written Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be developed.
