U S HISTORY I                                prerequisite - none                                      5 Credits

The United States History I course will provide an opportunity for students to acquire a greater understanding of the origins of our nation.  In addition, the students will have the opportunity to understand the development of the United States through 1870.  This program will enable the students to connect the past with the present.  There will be a concerted effort to apply knowledge of the past with current events as they unfold.  Included in the course will be pertinent units on the history and treatment of the Native Americans, the impact of slavery on American society, and the roles of African Americans and women in American History. 

U S HISTORY I HONORS              prerequisite - none                                      5 Credits

The United States History Honors I course will provide an opportunity for students to acquire a greater understanding of the origins of our nation.  In addition, the students will have the opportunity to understand the development of the United States through 1870.  This program will enable the students to connect the past with the present.  There will be a concerted effort to apply our knowledge of the past with current events as they unfold.  There will be use of primary sources as well as secondary sources to develop opinions about the past.  This development of historical imagination will enable the students to go back in time.  Included in the course will be pertinent units on the history and treatment of the Native Americans, the impact of slavery on the American society, and the roles of African Americans and women in American history.  This curriculum has been prepared for the student who is planning on pursuing a post-secondary education.

U S HISTORY II                               prerequisite –US History I                         5 Credits

The United States History II course will provide an opportunity for the students to acquire an understanding of the historical events that shaped contemporary America from 1870 to the present.  It will also provide an opportunity for students to acquire an understanding of our local, state, and federal government and an overview of the American economy as compared to other world economics.  Current events will be used throughout the course as it pertains to material presented.  This is a full year course for grades 10-12.  Included in the course will be units concerning the role of African Americans and women in American history, diversity, and genocide. 

U S HISTORY II HONORS              prerequisite - Honors US I                       5 Credits

In addition to the regular History II objectives, honor students will be required to perform and reason on a higher level, complete additional reports, projects, and learn at an independent rather than teacher directed pace.  Current events will be used throughout the course as it pertains to material presented.  This is a full year course for grades 10-12.  Included in the course will be units concerning the roles of African Americans and women in American history, diversity, and genocide.  This curriculum has been prepared for the student who is preparing for entrance into post-secondary education.

WORLD HISTORY/WORLD CULTURES      prerequisite - none                5 Credits

The World History course is designed to familiarize students with historical events or periods in human history chronologically and to help students see ways people and societies are alike and ways they are different. The students will gain an understanding that the issues and events of the world today are a product of the history and cultures of the past. Students will also understand that by learning the histories of other cultures, they can better tolerate and accept differences within our own culture and understand them. The course will include chronological units of study on the beginnings and development of ancient civilizations of the Near East, Nile, India and China; classical Greece, Rome, and early Christianity; the Empires of China and India; Muslim Civilization and African Kingdoms; Medieval Europe and the Middle Ages; Renaissance and Reformation; Age of Exploration and Expansion; Enlightenment and French Revolution; Industrialization, Nationalism, and Imperialism.

The World History Honors course is designed to familiarize students with historical events or periods in human history chronologically and to help students see ways people and societies are alike and ways they are different. This designation signifies a course of study that follows the same curriculum objectives and core standards, but allows/enables students to learn on a higher level that may prepare them for possible post-secondary education. Honor students will be required to perform and think/reason on a higher level, complete additional reports, research papers, and/or projects, and learn at an independent rather than teacher directed pace. The students will gain an understanding that the issues and events of the world today are a product of the history and cultures of the past. Students will also understand that by learning the histories of other cultures, they can better tolerate and accept differences within our own culture and understand them.
