Philosophy of Education

The objective of the instructional program is the achievement of the goals set by the Board of Education. The primary goal of the Board is to provide each child regardless of socioeconomic status educational opportunity which will prepare him/her to function politically, economically and socially in a democratic society. Since the individual grows and matures at his/her own rate, the intellectual, emotional, and physical challenges which he/she must experience in the learning process must also vary. To this end the Board directs the building of a school program which never knows completion, but is adaptable enough to keep pace with the ever-growing fund of knowledge and ideas which challenge society each day, and yet be flexible enough to encourage and assist each child to meet his/her needs.

In order to implement this philosophy the Board shall develop in consultation with the chief school administrator and teaching staff members, a written education plan for the district as a whole and each school within the district. This plan shall be reviewed and adopted annually and shall include:

  • written educational goals.
  • written education objectives, both long and short range on a five-year cycle, based upon these goals.
  • standards for assessing and evaluating the achievement of objectives.
  • an assessment of pupil needs.
  • the establishment of reasonable pupil minimum proficiency levels in the basic communication and computational skills.
  • an educational program consistent with these goals. objectives. standards and needs.
  • an evaluation of pupil progress.
